Electric VS Hydraulic Pool Cleaners

20/06/2022
Learn about the differences between the main automatic robots so you can make the right purchase to meet your pool's needs.
What is the difference between an electric and a hydraulic pool cleaner?

Both types of pool cleaner are automatic so you don't have to worry about anything. However, there are some major differences between the two types of cleaner that you should consider when buying one.

Types
  • Hydraulic pool cleanersThey are connected to the pool's skimmer or cleaner intake (also called "suction intake") and are totally dependent on your filtration system. While the filtration system is running, they clean the bottom and the walls, taking the dirt to the filter where it is retained.
    • Advantages: Simplicity, economical product.
    • Disadvantages: The pool pump must be at least 0.75 HP, higher power consumption, dirt is deposited in the filter.
    • Examples:
  • Air pressure pool cleanerThe system is similar to the previous one but with the difference that it is not connected to the pool's suction system. The air pressure cleaners are connected to the suction system and require a separate pump to be able to work. They retain the dirt in built-in bags and collect the suctioned debris, avoiding overloading the pump's pre-filter. These bags must be emptied after each cleaning cycle.
    • AdvantagesSimplicity, economical product.
    • Disadvantages :The pool pump must be at least 0.75 HP, higher electricity consumption.

    • AdvantagesCompletely independent of the filtration system, independent basket to remove dirt quickly and easily, they are programmable.
    • DisadvantagesDisadvantages: They often have problems with building ladders. There is currently no model that can climb stairs correctly.
