It depends on where the water is and what you want to move it for. Surface pumps are installed out of the water and are the usual choice for irrigation and domestic use from a tank or mains. Submersibles for clean water work inside wells and deep tanks. Drainage and wastewater pumps empty floods, basements or water with solids. And pressurisation units keep constant pressure in the home. The usual approach is to combine both by zone. Drip irrigation is the most water-efficient: it delivers water drop by drop to the root and is ideal for hedges, shrubs, flowerbeds and vegetable gardens. Sprinklers and diffusers cover large lawn areas with uniform rain-like watering. A single controller can govern drip and sprinkler zones with independent solenoid valves. Three elements form the heart of the system: the irrigation controller, which decides when and how much each zone waters (current Hunter or Rain Bird models can even be controlled from your phone); the solenoid valves, one per zone, which open and close the water flow at the controller's command; and the valve box, which houses them buried yet accessible. Two figures rule: the flow rate (litres/hour consumed simultaneously by all emitters of the most demanding zone) and the total head, which adds the elevation to overcome, the pipe losses and the working pressure of sprinklers or drippers. Each pump has its flow-pressure curve on its product page: the working point should fall in the middle zone of the curve, not at the extremes. It's a pump with automatic control fitted into the installation that starts by itself when it detects demand — you open a tap or the shower — to deliver constant pressure, and stops when you close it. It's the typical solution when mains pressure arrives weak, when supplied from a cistern or tank, or in multi-storey homes where water barely reaches upstairs. Compact units with variable speed drive additionally adjust speed to real consumption, with less noise and lower cost. The basis is two devices working together: a recirculation pump suited to the volume, which moves the water continuously (and feeds the fountain or waterfall if there is one), and a filter with UVC lamp, which retains dirt and whose ultraviolet light eliminates the suspended algae that turn the water green. For paddle boarding, the first thing is the user's weight and the use: wide, higher-volume boards are more stable for beginners and calm touring, while narrow ones gain speed for those who've mastered it.
